Here at Gather Co we want to ensure that the gap between your screen and our surfaces is bridged. As such, we have developed this Texture Guide to provide a general understanding of the finishes across our collection and to offer a sense of the ‘feel’ you can expect from each variety.
*Please note: This is intended as a guide only. Some surfaces may sit outside the prescribed finish as stated below. It is not a Slip Rating, you’ll find that in the “Resources and Installation” section at the bottom of each product page.
Chinese Harvest Pots
Finish: Chang - UnglazedIndicates a low lead time item.
Originating from Zibo in the province of Qingdao, these aptly named harvest pots where once used to store grain, rice, wheat and more.
Sound in body, these arresting pots are made from local clay and fired in timber fuelled mud-brick kilns.
Their commanding appearance suggests they would make the perfect poolside piece, or for those with a green thumb, they would play the perfect host to a plant or small tree that would frame them with perfection.
The North West of China is well known for its diverse family of antiquities, many of which are well out of reach to the Western world – not so with these grand pots.

Zibo - Once a key stop on the Silk Road connecting the ancient East and West, Zibo has long been a centre of movement. With its strategically significant location, it is now an important transport hub throughout modern China. Based on ‘Cuju’, a traditional game of kickball, Zibo is also recognised as the birthplace of football.
Low Fired Clay - Offering malleable workability and a resistance to shrinking or warping, low-fire clays are divided into two types; dark and white. The very definition of “low-fire” is determined by the temperature at which the clay matures, usually between 927⁰ and 1093⁰ C.
