Here at Gather Co we want to ensure that the gap between your screen and our surfaces is bridged. As such, we have developed this Texture Guide to provide a general understanding of the finishes across our collection and to offer a sense of the ‘feel’ you can expect from each variety.
*Please note: This is intended as a guide only. Some surfaces may sit outside the prescribed finish as stated below. It is not a Slip Rating, you’ll find that in the “Resources and Installation” section at the bottom of each product page.
Crafted from the cooled magma created in Earth’s underbelly, this stone is literally lava repurposed. Its unique creation story conjures up images of a primal world with continents clashing and lends an irresistible allure wherever laid.
Relatively rare in Australian architecture, this exotic stone is durable yet surprisingly lightweight. Barbosa is prepared in two finishes and is one of our only varieties available as an organic stepper.
• Deep grey through to jet black in colour.
• Surface pits can be filled during the grouting process of installation.
• Outstanding slip resistance with high porosity promoting surface moisture dispersal.
• Availible in multiple formats.
“A stone as close to repurposed lava than you will find.”

Haikou - Originally a port city, Haikou derives its name from the Chinese word for ‘seaport’ though the modern Haikou is also known by the moniker of ‘Coconut City’. With a mixture of Portugeuse, French and South-Asian influences it has benefited from contact with the West since the treaty of Tianjin in 1858 opened up trade routes.
Volcanic Rock - Lava Stone (or volcanic rock) is formed from the magma of an erupted volcano. Known for its lightweight and durability, Volcanic Rock often has a vesicular texture that is the result of the voids left by volatiles trapped in the molten lava.
